Rasmus Hojlund is in a battle against time to be fit for Manchester United’s crucial Champions League away encounter against Galatasaray in just over two weeks, while Christian Eriksen has been sidelined for over a month.Christian Eriksen: Man Utd midfielder set for three months out after injuring ankle in FA Cup tie with Reading | Football News | Sky Sports

Due to injury, Eriksen had to be substituted just before halftime due to a knee ailment, while Hojlund had to be replaced in the 78th minute of United’s 1-0 victory over Luton on Saturday. These players were forced to miss practice on Monday.

Hojlund is probably going to miss United’s first game following the international break, which is their Sunday week trip to Everton.

Prior to the August 29 trip to Istanbul to play Galatasaray, United expressed optimism that the Denmark striker would return “before the end of the month.” However, manager Erik ten Hag will now be anxious about the availability of his top scorer.

United has dropped three of its first four Group A games and would be eliminated from the Champions League if they are defeated by the Turkish champions.

It would be devastating for Ten Hag to lose Hojlund, who has five goals in the competition this season despite still not scoring in the Premier League, especially as the Dutchman is already dealing with a number of injury concerns.

The manager has banished Jadon Sancho, thus United is currently missing defenders Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, Jonny Evans, and Tyrell Malacia, midfielder Casemiro, and attacker Amad Diallo.

With Sofyan Amrabat and Mason Mount trying to find consistency and Casemiro out until Christmas, Eriksen’s absence creates additional problems in the midfield.

Eriksen would miss six games in a month, which would include the Premier League matches against Newcastle, Chelsea, and Bournemouth as well as, depending on the outcome against Galatasaray later this month, a crucial final Champions League group game on December 12 against Bayern Munich.

In an attempt to guarantee their spot at the 2024 Summer Olympics in France, Denmark has summoned up Jesper Lindstrom, a midfielder for Napoli, and Jens Stryger Larsen, a defender for Trabzonspor, in lieu of Eriksen and Hojlund. Denmark will play Slovenia on Friday and Northern Ireland three days later.

Following discussions with coach Roberto Martinez, United full back Diogo Dalot has withdrawn from Portugal’s squad to play Iceland and Liechtenstein due to personal reasons.
